West End to Surfers Paradise
Thursday I woke up at 'Somewhere to Stay' a hostal in the laid back West End area of Brisbane and headed off to a bookshop on Boundary Street. It was cloudy but perfect temperature around 25-30 degrees... Had my brekky and got a book for the journey which I read on the way to meeting up with my friend Kat (who reads philosophy at the local uni) for a trip to Surfers.
From Brisbane its pretty easy to get to Surfers, you just catch the train and a bus. Thankfully its now January and Schoolies week is over otherwise we would have been swamped by hordes of kids out on schooltrip.
By the way 2 things: Surfers Paradise IS just a kitsch name to make the place sound good. Its really a beautiful beach with nice waves but the high-rises japanese tourists and the tacky bars spoil the scene, the real surfing paradise is all around the coast of Queensland and NSW. And the second. Yes, that is a truckies tan on that semi-naked body. Thought you'd all appreciate it.
