Another night in Brisbane
Its Sunday and I guess I would have had to sleep at the beach in Byron if I hadn't made a last minute call to find some accomodation before cathing the bus there.. Turns out the only thing I could get in all of Byron is an apartment for 120 bucks, and even that was gone when I called again.
A word of advice.. This time of the year (Christmas/New Years) is the worst time to be looking for accomodation in Sydney and Byron, specially now with the Ashes its all full of English/Canadian and US backpackers. The guys I met in Straddie told me of the horrors of arriving in Byron at 5pm and not being able to find anywhere to stay and having to camp and get rained on, etc.
So instead of heading down to Byron I checked myself into a Brisbane hostal next to the bus station and called my friend Kat to see if she had some free time to catch up for a drink later. Got a ticket to Byron and reserved accomodation there for the next day, even that was hard, most places were booked ahead 3/4 days but I finally managed to get myself a bed by giving out my credit card number over the phone (which I hope I don't have to do again).
